Welcome!
Hello, I'm Sage Spitz
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me!
Thank you for taking the time to learn about me!
My name is Sage Spitz and I am an AEA stage manager living in Manhattan! I grew up as a performer, singing in choirs, taking dance/singing/acting lessons, and having a deep love for everything musical theatre. Initially going to college for classical voice performance, I got my degree in arts administration and worked in General Management. I felt I missed being in the room and seeing the creative process, and this is when I found stage management. I saw that I could combine my desire for creativity as well as my management skills, which I was able to hone during college and in professional practice. Having an understanding of what the performer goes through has aided me in my endeavors, as I can foresee problems before they arise and care for the actor, as I have been in their shoes. In addition, having experience professionally in a management position, I know how to organize, communicate, and disseminate information in an effective and streamlined way.
As a stage manager, I find that I lead with a sense of compassion and an understanding for all departments. I have had experience in lighting, sound, costuming, and general management. As such, I am able to bring a wide array of knowledge that aids me in making decisions and communicating effectively. I am a stage manager who enjoys being in the rehearsal room. I make interpersonal connections with the cast and members of the creative team so that individuals feel they can trust me with their art, which can be very personal at times. Making theatre should be fun! The moment it feels like work is the moment problems can arise. As such, I try to create an environment that is compassionate, respectful, and enjoyable for all involved.
I have been very fortunate to have worked on Moulin Rouge the Musical both on Broadway as well as on the North American National Tour. I am an ASM sub on both productions. I have learned to work in two very different environments and create connections with both teams. I am able to run the deck and take on responsibilities that are specific to each production. I recently graduated with an MFA from Columbia University in Stage Management under the direction of Michael Passaro. Having such a prominent role model who is actively working in the field was instrumental in my development as a stage manager. I have worked on two tours prior to Moulin Rouge, being an International Dance Competition and a new musical called Judy Moody and Stink, based on the novel by Megan McDonald. Touring has made me very proactive in seeing problems before they arise and taking action.
Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or opportunities!
